The Floating Castle: Fortress of the Samurai (DVD)

Twenty thousand soldiers in front of a fortress held by a man everyone considers a good-for-nothing: historical cinema with massive floods, battle choreography, and a sense of humor rarely found in this genre.

Japan 1590: Warlord Hideyoshi wants to unite the fragmented country and sends a massive army against the Hojo clan’s Oshi fortress. Its defense is left to Narita Nagachika, who prefers dancing with the peasants to shouting orders, and who uses exactly that to survive a long-lost siege. The film was nominated for multiple Japanese Academy Awards, including Best Film.
